Down in the pit
How many people down in the crowd
Wanna step up and scream out loud
How many people down in the crowd
Wanna step up and get knocked down
Jump up get rough everybody move
Step up quick with somthin to prove
Down in the pit men are made
jump up get tough don’t be afraid
Free of fear a day of days
Down in the pit u don’t feel pain
Broken noses occasional sprain
Right about then the blood will drain
Free your self and break your chains
Move like and animal with no name
Violently taking out your rage
No writtin rules ever in the pit
But u better stand strong or get hit
Show some respect or show conflict
Ether way homie step in to the pit
Bounce to the music and do it
Be a real fan and step up to the pit

Travis,
This poem has really good descriptions. I especially like this line: "Free your self and break your chains." You have made a mosh pit into a symbolic freeing of the soul. Excellent!

This poem reminds me of several great concerts I have been to: Rancid, AFI, NOFX, Ataris, etc... Having experienced "the pit", it is more than simply a symbolic freeing of the soul. Literally, "the pit" allows one to let go of conformity. Oddly, I find mosh pits relaxing.
