To understand a poem
To understand a poem you must, well there is no real set way to do this for the most part you just have to come up with your own meaning of the poem using the way it relates to you.
So remember that when you are looking for the meaning of a poem don’t ask the teacher or a friend just ask your self what does this poem mean to me.

I like how you defined how to view poetry. It is a shame that so many people dissect poetry until it is a large pile of rotting carcass from a once beautiful art.
